Good point. Something to investigate. Although with the above solution my laptop (an ASUS U36JC) still boots incredibly quit. My purpose for this was to maximize battery life at the expense of performance. I've had my laptop running on battery for 10 hours with this in place.

I've had this running on two laptops and not had to do anything of the sort. Although, I've been using the default user set up during install which I believe is given 'admin rights' and can sudo to anything, so you are probably correct.

Sure. Here ya go.

<code>
$x = new xmlrpc_client("http://xml.canihaveaclueplease.com");

As a side note, the cpu defaults to "ondemand" when the computer first boots with the justification that you'll want to maximize cpu power to minimize boot time. Perhaps a better solution would be changing the ondemand functionality after the boot sequence has been completed?

in order for this to work using cpufreq-selector from a script, /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector must have Cmnd_Alias and priveliges defined appropriately in /etc/sudoers

Well, in it's simplest form you can just 'echo' strings and the parent process will pick that up with the 'Listen()' call. As for reading data in the child process, I just use fgets() to read from STDIN and base my program loop around that. It's actually quite trivial.
